Lionel Messi lash out at team mates after defeat to Atletico Madrid

Lionel Messi was left furious as he was raging at his teammates after Barcelona squandered an earlier lead to suffer a disappointing 3-2 defeat to La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid. The Argentine star scored for the Spanish champions but his presence could not save Barcelona from the messy collapse in the Super Cup semi-final on Thursday night, January 9, in Jeddah. Koke gave Atletico an early lead with his goal coming in the 46th after receiving a brilliant assist from Angel Correa. Messi got the equaliser for Barcelona in the 51st minute before Antonio Griezmann gave the Catalans the lead in the 62nd minute via an header. With the game diving into the favour of Barcelona, Morata balanced the score-sheet again in the 81st minute via a penalty, with Correa easing Diego Simone's side into the final through a 86th minute strike. Atletico will now book a derby showdown with Real Madrid but the result of the game got Messi raging, with the Argentine blasting "childish" mistakes from his side, Goal reports. It is a shame, we played a great game, after so long we felt good again, we were in control, dominated and attacked all the time," Messi told reporters. "We let it slip through certain mistakes when [Atletico] were already almost dead. In less than 10 minutes they turned round a game that we should have seen out." The result of the game has now put more pressure on Ernesto Valverde whose position is threatened after last week's draw with Espanyol in La Liga.
