Lionel Messi misses out of the 2019 Copa America team of the tournament
Argentina captain Lionel Messi has been excluded from the Copa America team of the tournament which was recently concluded.
The 32-year-old scored one goal and assisted another one in six matches at the continental championship hosted by Brazil. He was however unable to help them win the title as they ended up finishing third best team of the competition following their 2-1 win over Chile in the losers' final. Meanwhile, Paris Saint Germain midfielder Leandro Paredes is the only Argentine in the starting eleven. While Brazil have the highest number of players in the squad - with Alisson, Thiago Silva, Everton, Arthur Melo and Dani Alves all making the shortlist. Other stars are José Giménez (Uruguay), James Rodriguez from Colombia, Chile midfielder Arturo Vidal and the duo of Peru stars Paolo Guerrero and Miguel Trauco. Meanwhile, Brazil are the champions of the 2019 edition of the competition following their 3-1 victory over Peru in the final. Dani Alvez emerged the most valuable player of the tourney while Alisson went home with the golden gloves.Everton won the man of the match at the final and also picked the golden boot after scoring three goals and one assist at the tourney.
