French army helicopters in fatal crash
Two French military Gazelle helicopters have crashed, killing at least five people according to French media outlets.
The crash is said to have happened at Carcès lake in southern France, north of St Tropez. Rescuers are already at the scene and are searching for a sixth person who was aboard one of the helicopter. The cause of the crash is not yet known but both helicopters is said to belong to Ealat, a military school which trains pilots for the French military service.
The flying school at Cannet des Maures is equipped with 82 aircraft and trains helicopter pilots from France, Germany and Spain, the Ealat website says. The French military has been using the Gazelle since the 1970s and are currently used in Mali for their anti-terror mission by the French forces.
