We need Helicopters to clear terrorists, Army tells law makers

The Nigerian Army has appealed to lawmakers of the National Assembly to provide helicopters for military operations against Boko Haram terrorists fighting in the northeast.
The theatre commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Olusegun Adeniyi, Boko Haram and all other terrorist groups in the region will be crushed in a short period of time should the National Assembly approve the purchase of helicopters for the Army. Adeniyi while speaking during a visit by the National Assembly's joint committee on to the Army in Maiduguri, Borno state said the unavailability of Army aviation was responsible for the institution's inability to defeat the terrorists. He said the necessary gadget needed in the fight against insurgency if provided would aid the Nigerian Army's effort in fighting Boko Haram. Adeniyi said: "The only thing that needs to be given to the army now is Nigeria Army Aviation with its own helicopters." “There is a way you solve a problem that will change the game. The army needs combat helicopters to end the Boko Haram war. If we have it, it will not be deployed like air force assets, air force jets which are for bigger strategic goals," he added. He also said that the helicopters, if provided would be dispatched alongside frontline troops and riffles. “These helicopters will sleep with us in the trenches, they will be with us in the front-line. These helicopters and the rifles are dispatched together. “I know this has been on the table for years. When this is done, Nigeria can forget about Boko Haram," Adeniyi added.
