Russia and China have commenced joint naval drills in the waters near the Russia/North Korean border.

This joint naval exercise which commenced on Monday is the second part of both countries 'Joint Sea-2017' programme which was initially embarked on in June.

Although these drills are not directly linked to the increasing tensions between North Korea and the rest of the world, it comes at a time when DPRK continues to issue strong threats regarding its nuclear programme.

Russia and China have consistently maintained that only a peaceful resolution can avert this crisis.

However, Nikki Haley, the US ambassador to the UN, claimed the UNSC has now run out of options and has warned the matter may now need to be turned over to the Pentagon.

"We have pretty much exhausted all the things that we can do at the Security Council at this point… We're trying every other possibility that we have, but there's a whole lot of military options on the table," she told CNN on Sunday.
