Balon d'or: Spanish players miss 30 man short-list for the very first time since 1993

Spanish players have been ignored in the 30-man shortlist for the 2019 Ballon d'Or award which will be the very first time since 1993 that such is happening.

The likes of Manchester United goalie David De Gea, Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos and even Man City captain David Silva who won the Premier League title last season with the Citizens. Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno won the Champions League title last season, but the Spaniard played minor role on the field as he is a second fiddle to Andy Robertson. Despite Spain’s omission, seven La Liga players are included with four Barcelona players, two from Real Madrid and Joao Felix from Atletico.
Meanwhile, Spanish players are not the only big names missing on the Ballon d'Or list as even last season's winner Luka Modric of Real Madrid was not listed. Neymar, Harry Kane, N'Golo Kante and Luis Suarez were all left out in the Ballon d'Or shortlist. Winner will be announced on December 2 in Paris, with Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk the odds-on favorite ahead of five-time winners Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. The major ommision in the 30 man shortlist is Neymar, this can be attributed to his poor form last season as he was constantly sidelined due to injury, he missed out in the Copa america tournment, as well as major parts of the european top flight competition Uefa champions league due to injury.
