England on Tuesday evening, overcame decades of penalty shootout agony in their World Cup win over Colombia.
Gareth Southgate's team played a 1-1 stalemate with the South American side who were without their star player, James Rodriguez, who sustained injury in their last group game.
Current golden boy of the English team, Harry Kane had given his side the lead after 57 minutes of open play from the the penalty spot -his sixth goal of the competition.
Columbia fought back as Yerry Mina's 93rd-minute header sent the game into extra-time.
The game eventually went to penalty shootout, which saw Jordan Pickford save Bacca's effort before Eric Dier slotted home his spot kick to send England through.
Earlier in the day, Sweden advanced further into the knockout stage with a one nil win over Switzerland. Emil Forsberg's deflected strike ensured Sweden had a place in the World Cup quarter-finals.
Despite going to World Cup without their biggest player Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Sweden reached the quarterfinals for the first time since 1994.
England and Sweden are set to face each other in the quarter-finals on Saturday in Samara.
