Rio 2016: Sweden defeats S/Africa at Women Football's tournament opener

The Olympic Games were up and running on Wednesday afternoon in Rio, as Sweden claimed a narrow victory over South Africa in the women's football tournament.
The Swedes defeated their African rivals 1-0 at the Olympic Stadium, with Nilla Fischer claiming the first goal of the Olympic football tournament.
In the first action of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, both teams started slowly, but the Swedes looked the more confident after the break.
A goalkeeping error about 30 minutes into the second half gave the advantage to the Swedes, after a previous struggle by both sides to break the deadlock.
Wednesday's victory may now help Sweden seal qualification out of a tough group that features World Cup quarter finalists China and hosts Brazil.
The match took place in a near-empty stadium.
The first matches of the men's football tournament will take place on Thursday, with Brazilian superstar Neymar spearheading the host nation's quest for a first ever Olympic gold medal – the only international title ever to elude the five-time World Cup winners.
The formal opening ceremony  of the Rio Olympics takes place at the Maracana Stadium on Friday.
