Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State on Wednesday described the suspension of Adams Oshiomhole as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by an Abuja High Court as a verdict for the party unity and for the people of the state.
Obaseki who made the declaration at the party’s rally held at Urokpota Hall ground, Benin City which coincided with the court verdict said members of the party have learnt a lesson and that today is a new era in Edo, noting that he is saying that with mixed feelings, considering where the party has come from. While calling on the party faithful to go back and strengthen their units, Obaseki said the party is one, noting that the problem he was having with the national chairman is that he fails to heed to him when he asked him to denounce the EPM which he refused, pointing out that “no man is God” The Governor however noted that what the state has attained in infrastructure and agriculture is just a little compared to what the state is yet to experience. He said he is not afraid to see people coming out to say that they want to contest for the governorship position but they have to do it according to the rules of the game. He said he was prepared to embrace anything that will bring peace into the party and the state.
Factional Chairman of the Edo State Chapter of APC, Anselm Ojezua also described the suspension of Adams Oshiomhole by the Abuja High court as excellent verdict. According to Ojezua, today is a great day for the people of the state and the party that the Abuja High Court has finally suspended the National Chairman. The suspension of the embattled national chairman, he said, will provide the needed atmosphere for peace in the party in the state. The suspension meted on the national chairman has finally proven to all in the state that no man is God, he further said, adding that the today is a great day for the party in the state. Today is a great day for us in the party. The Abuja High Court has just asked the national Chairman of the party to step aside. I believed this will further create the atmosphere for peace in the state. This has further shown to us that no man is God”, he said. Ojezua said other elected members of the house of assembly who have abandoned their legislative duty to stay in Abuja should learn from what has just befallen the national chairman and come back to represent their constituencies as they will be forgiven and accepted back. If a child deeps his hands into faeces, we will not cut the child’s hands off because of that. We want our brothers who have gone to stay in Abuja and have abandoned their duty to come back home and when they come, we will receive them”, Ojezua said.
