Tension in Edo APC as rift between Oshiomole and Obaseki widens over rally
The purported rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo said to have been scheduled for Friday, December 20, has widened the rift between the national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole and Governor Godwin Obaseki.
A number of defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu are to be welcomed into the APC at the said rally, The Nation reports. On his part, Obaseki, speaking to journalists at the state secretariat of the ruling party, said that he is not aware of any rally. He added that as a matter of safety, the party has put in place certain measures to ensure the security of lives and properties, especially in the yuletide. He said: “The issue of public safety is a major concern to us as a government and this being the last Security Council meeting for the year, we had to put up measures in place to tackle security challenges. Based on this, Barr Anselm Ojezua, the state chairman of APC, ordered party members to boycott the rally. He went ahead to say that the party's affairs in the state are not necessarily the business of the APC at the national level. However, Col David Imuse, the factional chairman of the party, said that the rally was agreed upon at a National Electoral Council (NEC) meeting. muse said: “We had a NEC meeting, it was ratified and affirmed. We had the South-South leaders meeting it was affirmed and in the meeting of all the chairmen of APC nationwide, it was affirmed.
