IBB, Gusau ousted me from power in 1985 to save their heads- Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has finally opened up on why he was ousted from power in a military coup, thirty one years after the incident.
In an exclusive interview granted to The Interview Magazine, the President attributed his ouster 31years ago, to the fact that he was planning to purge the military hierarchy of corruption.
According to Buhari, in order to protect themselves from his wrath, senior military officers led by former Head of State, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida and Gen. Aliyu Gusau, orchestrated the coup which toppled him from power in August 1985.
He challenged IBB and Gusau, to tell Nigerians the truth on why they carried out the coup.
The President stated: "I learnt that Aliyu Gusau, who was in charge of intelligence, took import licence from the ministry of commerce which was in charge of supplies and gave it to Alhaji Mai Deribe.
"It was worth N100,000, a lot of money at that time. I confronted them and took the case to the Army council in a memo...I wanted Gusau punished."
In the interview printed in the current edition of the magazine, President Buhari also addressed issues relating to his predecessor (Goodluck Jonathan), his health, the pace of his administration, the 2016 budget, and why he gave 3 ministerial portfolios to the former Governor of Lagos, Babatunde Fashola.
In a statement on the magazine's website, the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief, Azu Ishiekwene, said concerning the interview, "This is one edition that won't let sleeping dogs lie."
