PDP crisis: Party hierarchy calls for Sheriff's arrest

The continued defiance of court judgments by the embattled (former) National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been frowned upon by the leadership of the party.

In a statement in Abuja, party Spokesman, Dayo Adeyeye, called on the Inspector General of Police, to immediately arrest Sheriff, as he expressed outrage that the former Borno State Governor went ahead to issue a certificate to his faction's candidate for the Edo State Governorship Election, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, even after the judgment of Monday, July 4,  2016.

According to Adeyeye, this was an act of utter disobedience to the court judgment, and should  not be treated with levity.

Recalling that this was not the first time Sheriff would be disobeying a judgment of the court, Adeyeye urged security agencies to live up to their responsibilities and stop Sheriff from bringing the Judiciary to ridicule.

"We are shocked at the attitude of the former National Chairman of our  great party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, who has become an authority in the country with flagrant disobedience of the Nigerian Constitution, the  Electoral Act and the PDP Constitution without being arrested or  detained by security agencies. Is he above the law, if we may ask?''   Prince Adeyeye queried.

He said Justice Abdullah Liman's judgment in the Port Harcourt High Court on July 4, 2016, was superior to all other court rulings,ex-parte orders or  interlocutory injunctions procured by Senator Sheriff and his  co-travellers, noting that Sheriff's reliance on Justice Okon Abang's ruling of  Thursday, June 30, 2016, was an attempt to confuse unsuspecting members  of the public as he had done in the past.

"You will recall that Senator Sheriff in collaboration with some APC Governors and members invaded our party secretariat on Monday June 13,  2016, laying claims to a non-existing court order.

'He has started  again after a competent court issued a judgment upholding the decision  of our National Convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, which  constituted the PDP National Caretaker Committee to pilot the affairs of  the party for 90 days, and to conduct another convention that will elect new officers of the party.

'Following this, we are calling on the Police  to do the needful by arresting Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, his  co-travelers and Hon. Matthew Iduoriyekemwen for disobeying court judgment."

Adeyeye reiterated that Osagie Ize-Iyamu was the only authentic candidate for Governorship in Edo State recognized by the PDP; and he urged all party members to give him their full support.
