Troops Capture More Town from Boko Haram

The Nigerian army is making unprecedented progress in the battle against Boko Haram. It would be recalled that the troop had been retaking towns after towns from the Boko Haram insurgents in recent times, thanks to the reignited effort of the Nigerian Army.  The recent town to be taken by the Nigerian army is Gudumbali town. The town was retaken by the Nigerian army on Friday, the 21st of August.

The town was retaken from the Boko Haram terrorist by the troops from 7 Brigade  and the town is located in Kukawa local government area of Borno state. As at the time of reporting, the town is free of insurgents. The troop has completely surrounded the town and driven the insurgents out of the town.

After the town was recaptured, the soldiers made a clean sweep of the town and discovered among other things, land mines planted by the insurgents. The landmines were located along the Dikwa route from the town. 2 soldiers were lost in the process on the Nigerian side; the Nigerian Army also recorded 2 other seriously injured soldiers.

The acting director of army public relations, Colonel Sani Usman made this known to newsmen during a press interaction after the recapture of the town. He also reported on the arms and ammunitions captured from the insurgents. The site of the said landmines was also shown to the pressmen. The army acting-spokesperson equally hinted that the Nigerian army has one of its toughest fights against Boko Haram in this town. He said men from both 7 brigade and 5 brigade were involved in the fight.

In his words: “As part of  the offensive operations against Boko Haram terrorists, troops of 7 Brigade have today entered and cleared Gudumbali town, Kukawa local government area of Borno State.

“During the operation, quite a number of the terrorists were killed, while their weapons and equipments were destroyed. The troops are currently doing clearance operations in the general area.

“It should be recalled that the Nigerian Air Force has inflicted heavy damage on the terrorists’ camp within the general area last Monday.”

 The army spokesperson went further by telling pressmen that the morale is high in the camp of the Nigerian Army and that the men are even readier to do more damage to Boko Haram. He said the men are ready to go all out against the terrorist and route them out of their enclaves and camps.

According to Colonel Usman, the Nigerian army were able to arrest 2 key members of the Boko Haram sect in a town in Yobe State called Geidam.  He said they were able to arrest the men during one of their military operations in the said region. He said the Nigerian army is wary of the plan of the Boko Haram sect to stage an attack on Damasak area of the state and that surveillance is already been conducted by the Nigerian air force. 

The president had used the opportunity to assure Nigerians of his commitment to sending the Boko Haram insurgence issue within the shortest time possible.
