President Buhari speaks on efforts to secure release of Leah Sharibu

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, February 18, promised that his administration would continue to make efforts to secure the release of Leah Sharibu and other captives being held by Boko Haram insurgents.

The Nigerian president made the statement during the commemoration of the abduction of Leah Sharibu, the remaining Dapchi schoolgirl who has been in Boko Haram's captivity for two years after she reportedly refused to renounce her Christian faith. Buhari said no person has the right to force another to change their faith against their will and that all life is sacred. He noted that the federal government would make efforts to secure the release of all children and captives of terrorists regardless of their background. Buhari said while his government redoubles efforts to secure Leah’s return, Nigerians should not allow terrorists to divide Christians and Muslims in the country. He said Nigerians have the same worth and rights before the law, and before God.
