Leah Sharibu: How history will remember Dapchi schoolgirl – Oby Ezekwesili

Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, on Tuesday, declared that history will record that Leah Sharibu was left behind when her schoolmates were retrieved from Boko Haram captivity.
Ezekwesili stated this while felicitating with Sharibu as she turns 16 years old today. Recall that Sharibu was abducted on the night of February 19 last year, alongside her schoolmates of Government Science College, Dapchi in Yobe state. The teenager was however not released by her captors because she refused to denounce her Christian faith, while the other girls were freed by the terrorist group. The former minister Tuesday commended Sharibu for standing by her faith despite her trials. ‏In a series of tweets, Ezekwesili wrote: History will record that a young daughter of our country #LeahSharibu was left behind when her schoolmates were retrieved from terrorist abduction. She stood unwilling to negotiate her faith for freedom. @MBuhari promised, yet Leah is still with terrorists. She’s 16 today. Tragic. Some time this year, one of the abducted girls who gained freedoom narratted her ordeal in the hands of her abductors as well as her encounter with Leah Sharibu, She said that despite their challenges, Leah Sharibu still stood strong in her faith and have refused to convert, She also informed the press that Leah Sharibu was in good health but urged Nigerians to continue to pray for her release.
