Odion Ighalo speaks about return to national team after being nominated for CAF awards
The Shanghai Shenhua striker announced his retirement shortly after the AFCON 2019 tournament in July. Ighalo finished the tournament as topscorer with five goals which earned him a nomination for the men's African Footballer of the Year.
Speaking with Brila.net, the 30-year-old responded to claims that he could return to international duties for Nigeria. “The reality is I am retired, and it stays that way for now,” he said. “But we don’t know what the future holds and it is true that there have been calls for me to come back; we’ll see how it goes.” The former Watford striker recently helped his team win the Chinese version of the FA Cup after overturning a first leg 1-0 defeat to win 3-0 in the second leg. Ighalo has continued to maintain his goalscoring prowess in the Chinese Super League netting ten goals in 17 appearances.
