Burglars invade Bayelsa government house, steal N3.5m

Just weeks to the end of Governor Seriake Dickson's tenure in office, alleged burglars have raided the Bayelsa Government House and disappeared with the sum of N3.5 million.
The incident was confirmed by the deputy chief of staff to the governor, Ebizi Ndiomu-Brown, whose office was burgled. Channels Television reports that the Ndiomu-Brown said the amount stolen was not N40 million as claimed in some reports. The deputy chief of staff, who is on an official assignment away from Bayelsa, said she was not suspecting anybody in particular, but that the police was already investigating the case. The report said the public relations officer of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for the Bayelsa command, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident. Butswat confirmed that the amount stolen was N3.5 million. According to him, the main entrance door to the deputy chief of staff's office was damaged and the safe inside the office was destroyed. He said some policemen and other security agents were initially arrested for the alleged crime and questioned, but that they have been released after they made statements. On his part, the Bayelsa commandant of the NSCDC, Christiana Abiakama-Omanu, confirmed the incident and the arrest of her men. She, however, said they have been released after they were questioned.
