Bayelsa State Government House reportedly came under heavy gunfire on June 12

According to reports, the Bayelsa state government house came under heavy gunfire on Sunday, June 12, as suspected kidnappers attempted to abduct some Chinese nationals, who were lodging in the expatriate quarters. The gunmen reportedly exchanged gunfire with security operatives attached to the Government House.

The six Chinese nationals who are in the. Sate to work on the proposed State Govt. Castle Hotel, had been woken up by the invasion of the gunmen some minutes before midnight.

The gunmen were said to have gained access to the Government House to perpetuate the abduction, through the waterways behind the complex.

A source in the government house who narrated what happened said: "One of the Chinese nationals was bold enough to tackle one of the kidnappers and disarm him. The Chinese national later opened fire and the sporadic gunshot attracted heavy security presence at the main entrance of the government house."

His account was corroborated by another eye witness.
