INEC optimistic on electronic collation, transmission of results in 2023
The face of election might likely change for the best as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says the use of smart card reader machine and electronic collation of results would be legally possible in the 2023 general election. This was disclosed by Festus Okoye, INEC’s national commissioner in charge of publicity and voter education.
Okoye who represented the chairman of the commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, at a stakeholders’ forum on electoral reforms said the commission is committed to the enhancement of the power of the smart card reader. Going further, he said the commission would drive the process for the introduction of new technologies in the electoral process. Meanwhile INEC was under scrutiny in the last general elections when it said it did not transmit any of its results electronically to a central server as was claimed by the PDP and it's presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.
