Wednesday's UEFA champions league games delivered a valentine's day master class, recording nine goals in the two games played.
Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo overcame their poor league outing to show Paris Saint Germain, why they are the defending champions with a performance that makes you wonder what had happened to the team prior to this game. Cristiano Ronaldo, whose goals coring form has dip remarkably this year, scored a doubled against a Paris Saint Germain side, who had the world's most expensive player, Neymar, on their roaster.
Though, at the end of the game, possession stats was shared evenly between both side, the scoreline tells of a different story despite Paris Saint Germain taking the lead 33 minutes into the game. The only goal for the french side was not from their expensive talisman, rather from french midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
Real Madrid's comeback to win the game 3 goals to 1 was just what the team needed following a bad spell of games in La Liga. Paris St-Germain will now look to put this game behind them and focus on the return leg at Parc Des Princes as they hold a precious away goal which could prove vital if they are determined to make it into the quarter finals.
Meanwhile, in the other game of the night, Liverpool popped five goals into FC Porto's goal despite being the away side. Liverpool and virtually assured of qualification into the quarter finals as they have a win and 5 away goals over Porto. The Portuguese team faces an impossible task of scoring at least 6 goals when the return leg is played at Liverpool's Anfield stadium.
That might be a target too high but considering Liverpool's defensive record, they might have a slender hope of making the quarter finals. Mane's hat-trick, Salah and Firmino's goals capped a fine performance for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool fans who got the best of the Valentine.
Continental football action still continues as Europa league action resumes. The round of 32 fixtures for Thursday will see Arsenal, Dortmund, Athletico Madrid and AC Milan all return to action.
