A farewell testimonial match to honor late Super Eagles Coaches, Stephen Keshi and Amodu Shuaibu, has been scheduled for July 23.
A committee to oversee the match has been set up by the Lagos State Government in conjunction with the Sports Writer's Association of Nigeria (Lagos Chapter) and the Nigeria Football Supporters Club.
The match will take place at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
The chairman of the committee who is also the President-General of the NFSC, Rafiu Ladipo, said the event is meant to raise money for the families of the departed coaches and also celebrate them.
Ladipo said, "The match would have Eagles players battle against a Lagos All Stars team in the main match of the day, while the curtain-raiser would be a game between the Lagos SWAN team and the supporters club. This would be followed by a musical concert where prominent Nigerian musicians and comedians would perform in the entertainment aspect of the programme. This aspect of the event will be coordinated by veteran musician, Chris Mba."
The coordinator of the event, Effiong Nyong, said, "Amodu and Keshi must be celebrated with fanfare as they left their footprints on the sands of time. It is sad that we won't see the two coaches that qualified Nigeria for three editions of the World Cup out of the five the country competed in, again."
