A rogue Afghan policeman killed 10 of his colleagues in the southern province of Uruzgan early Tuesday, officials said, the second insider attack on government forces in a week.
"This policeman first drugged 10 of his colleagues and then shot them dead," Dost Mohammad Nayab, the spokesman for Uruzgan's governor, told AFP, in an attack claimed by the Taliban.
Nayab said the policeman who had connections with armed militants, first poisoned his comrades and then shot all of them during the night in a checkpoint located in Shpilokh area of Chinartu district. Nayab said the suspect was being sought by the authorities.
He also disclosed that a convoy of police heading for the checkpoint this morning repelled another Taliban attack with no casualties. Two US service members were killed in August last year when an Afghan soldier opened fire in southern Helmand province.
