Four arrested as stash of cash discovered in South Africa

Police in South Africa's city of Ekurhuleni on Tuesday arrested four persons after discovering large sums of money that had been hidden at two locations in the city.

The stash of cash was recovered from a home owned by a couple who claim they are keeping it safe for a guard who works for money-transit company SBV.

The couple also informed the police of another large stash that was also hidden in a trunk in the yard, which police also managed to recover.

The company SBV, however denies any link to the claims.

Spokesperson for the local police, Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago explained that the money was recovered by the department's tracing unit in Langaville.

Kgasago said: "The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) tracing unit received information from a reliable source that there was a considerable amount of money hidden in Langaville, extension 8.

"Our guys at around midnight pounced on the house and when they arrived, found a huge amount of cash. Thereafter, they found a couple, a 58 and 59 year old."

Kgasago also noted that they were able to recover another hidden money in Springs, following tips given to the force.

Despite media reports that the cash might be from the a daring van-heist that ocurred last week, Kgasago could not confirm if there was any link.

But he said that the couple at the raided property and two women had been arrested.

Last weeks robbery which was caught on camera saw two cash vans bombed while driving from a depot to a bank in Kempton Park.
