Husband-to-be Killed By Wedding Guest

A bridegroom in New Delhi has been killed during a celebration, Indian police said on Wednesday.  21 year old, Deepak Kumar was shot by a stray bullet from member of his wedding party who was dancing, as he led them to his bride’s home in the Indian capital on Tuesday evening.

“He collapsed and was rushed to a
hospital where he was declared dead after midnight,” Nupur Prasad, deputy commissioner of Delhi police, told AFP.

Even though the practice is illegal in India, it is still a common occurrence in the Asian country as celebratory gun fire is common at weddings and other festivities across South Asia.

Prasad said the family of the groom had identified the man who fired the bullet.

“It is an ongoing investigation and we are trying to ascertain the source of his weapon,” he said.

One of the wedding guests, Amit, told the Times of India newspaper there “were a couple of people carrying guns for celebratory firing, which is considered a tradition in the family.
