US: White House Communications Director Hope Hicks to Resign

White House communications director and one of president trump's longest-serving aide, Hope Hicks, will be stepping down just a day after pending nine hours with the Intelligence Committee of the House of Representatives in a closed door hearing, in which she refused to answer questions about the Trump's administration. The committee is investigating the alleged Russia meddling if the 2016 US presidential election.

Hicks, a former aide to Ivanka Trump, had managed to operate effectively as a communications director while keeping a low-but-glamorous-profile but was surrounded by controversy when charges of domestic abuse against former White House staff secretary Rob Porter -whom she was dating- by his two former wives was made public.

White House spokesperson Sarah Sanders in a statement announcing Hicks' resignation, said the 29 year old decision had nothing to do with her a truly great person whom he would miss having at his side.

"Hope is outstanding and has done great work for the last three years. She is as smart and thoughtful as they come, a truly great person," Trump said adding, "I will miss having her by my side but when she approached me about pursuing other opportunities, I totally understood. I am sure we will work together again in the future."

Hicks' statements read; "There are no words to adequately express my gratitude to President Trump. I wish the president and his administration the very best as he continues to lead our country."

Secretary Sarah Sanders said no timeline had been set for Hicks' departure, but it is expected to happen sometime over the next few weeks. She had taken over as communications director after Anthony Scaramucci's 11-day tenure and credited for stabilizing the communications operation.
