Re-run Elections: INEC fixes March 12 for NASS, A/bom constituencies

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Saturday March 12, 2016 for rerun elections in five state constituencies and Uyo Senatorial District in Akwa-Ibom State.

Disclosing this on Wednesday in the premises of the INEC in Owerri, after a meeting with the candidates of the affected re-run polls, political parties leaders/stakeholders, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), of Imo State, Dr. Gabriel Ada, noted that the elections were prompted by the Court of Appeal's nullification of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Chief Athan Achonu, on December 11, 2015, based on the petition filed by the Accord Party candidate, Mrs. Rita Ibemere, that there was no Accord Party logo when the poll was held last year. He said the decision was in consonance to the order of the court that they should be held within 90 days of the judgments.

Dr. Gabriel Ada, "The re-run elections will be conducted in an unbiased manner. I appeal to them to make sure there is no violence, they should encourage voters to come out and participate in the process."
