Taliban ambush on Afghan police convoy leaves 22 dead

More than 20 police officers have been killed in a Taliban ambush on a police convoy in Farah province on Sunday, the latest in series of attacks on Afghan forces in recent weeks, dealing a huge blow to the country's security.
The attack comes only a day after a suicide bombing inside an army base mosque on Friday.
In a WhatsApp message, the group took responsibility of the attack with its spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, claiming 25 police were killed and four wounded.
"Four vehicles were destroyed and a large number of weapons were seized," he added.
Health official, Shir Ahmad Weda -- Director of the public hospital in the provincial capital -- said at least two police officers were wounded in Sunday's ambush.
The police convoy was on its way to Juwain district, from Farah city when it came under attack.
With presidential election scheduled for April 20, 2019, there is an increasing sense of urgency for a peace deal to end the 17-year war.
On Monday, Afghan election organizers said a possible delay of the poll for three months was being considered amid fears the ballot could derail efforts to persuade the Taliban to talk.
