The International Criminal Court has reacted to the statement of US National Securiryt Adviser John Bolton, threatening arrest and sanctions on any ICC judges, if it move to charge any Ameriacan with war crimes.
In a statement, the Hague-based criminal court noted it was an independent and impartial institution, backed of 123 countries.
"The ICC, as a court of law, will continue to do its work undeterred, in accordance with those principles and the overarching idea of the rule of law," it said.
This public attack by the us might unintentionally help boost the reputation of the ICC, which had dogged with accusations that it places much focus on African Nations and not powerful Western countries.
Ten out of the institution's 11 ongoing investigations focuses on African states, and all 37 named defendants are from Africa. This perception unfair targeting, has led many countries to refuse arresting Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir who has an ICC warrant against him.
The backlash also resulted countries threatening to pull out of the Rome Statute establishing the court.
