Japans Vice Finance Minister resigns amid sexual harassment allegations

Japan's Finance Minister Taro Aso, has told reporters he has accepted the resignation of his Administrative Vice Finance Minister Junichi Fukuda, on Wednesday.
Junichi Fukuda was forced to tender his resignation following a publication by a weekly magazine which accused him of sexually harassing several female reporters. The news is the latest in a series of scandals which has rocked Prime Minister Shinzo Abe administration with his ratings plummeting.
Abe has been facing a steadily increasing number of allegations about suspected cronyism and cover-ups which has cast doubts over the longevity of his term as prime minister of Japan.
A few cases of reported sexual harassment -as a result of the global #MeToo movement- by public figures has been witnessed in Japan, a nation where victims do not speak out, because of fear of being blames.
In a statement, the Finance ministry said an external body would continue investigations into the accusations, after an initial internal fact-finding had been conducted by Fukuda's subordinate.
The ministry also urged female reporters to come forward and contact the law firm, if they were willing to cooperate with the investigation.
The identity of the female reporters accusing the Mr. Junichi Fukuda is yet to be made public.
