Severe Cold Weather Conditions Continues to Hamper Activities Across Europe

Heavy snowfall and deadly blizzards have continued forcing airports to cancel or delay flights around Europe. Roads have been blocked, Schools shut due to the snowstorms which is unusual for most part of the continent at this time of year
On Thursday, Geneva airport was forced to close for some hours by the weather dubbed the "Beast from the East" in Britain, "Siberian bear" by the Dutch and the "snow cannon" by Swedes
Southern Britain and Ireland, in addition to the weather, were hit by Storm Emma leaving at least 24,000 homes and businesses in Ireland without power. The stock exchange was shut, schools were closed and flights from Dublin airport canceled as a result.
Similarly to Ireland, Britain also had roads were closed, schools shut and flights canceled, while the army was called in to assist in rescuing many drivers who were stuck in the snow and to help transport National Health Service workers. Icy conditions led to a seven year old been killed in Cornwall,that had by a car crashing into a house.
"The Armed Forces are assisting emergency services in ensuring essential NHS staff are able to get to work and carry out their work in local communities," a spokesman for the Ministry of Defense said.
The army is"standing by to help the Police and civil authorities across the UK following heavy snowfall. We are also aware of Armed Forces personnel volunteering in their own time with their own vehicles to help those in need."
Across Europe, the number of deaths has rise to over 55, as another 3 died in Poland, taking the number of victims there to 21. Czech Republic in recent days, have recorded six deaths, five in Lithuania, four in France, three in Spain, two each in Italy, Serbia, Romania and Slovenia, and one each in Britain and the Netherlands.
A baby was dramatically given birth to on a snowy roadside in Britain after heavy snow impeded their dash to hospital.
