A twin bombing attack in a mosque claimed the lives of two people and 55 other injured. The attack in the city of Benghazi, Libya, occurred place  during Friday's prayers at a small mosque in Majouri district and was remotely detonated by mobile phone according to residents.

Benghazi, Libya's second biggest city is controlled by the Libya National Army (LNA), the dominant force in the eastern region of Libya had been battling Islamist with ties to the Islamic State (IS) and Al-Qaeda.

The LNA, led by Commander Khalifa Haftar, a likely aspirant in the upcoming Libyan elections is attempting to restore stability in the region and has made a pledge to stop the anarchy that ensued after the ousting of Muammar Gaddafi, seven years ago. 

Haftar began his military campaign in response to continuous bombings and assassinations by on Islamist militants in Benghazi in May 2014. He does not support the government in the western capital Tripoli, back by the United Nations. 

The UN are hoping elections could help stabilize the north African country in a effort bring the East and West together but the challenge is that the country has too many military and political factions and especially after the 2014 election which saw the rival government claim authority.
