- Continues to face strong criticism due to ongoing Rohingya crisis.

Myanmar's national leader and Nobel peace prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi has withdrawn from attending the United Nations General Assembly session scheduled to hold in New York on September 20th.

The Myanmar leader whose official title is state counsellor continues to face strong criticism from world leaders over her silence on the ongoing Rohingya crisis that has seen nearly 400,000 muslims flee to Bangladesh.

"She's never afraid of facing criticism or confronting problems. Perhaps she's got more pressing matters here to deal with," Aung Shin, the spokesman, told Reuters.

The only comment received so far from Aung San Suu Kyi was that the country is doing all within its power to protect all citizens.

The Nobel peace prize winner has neither acknowledged the displacement of Rohingya muslims nor condemned the violence and this has led to calls from some rights groups for the United Nations to withdraw her Nobel prize.
