Trump applauds Brits for Brexit; says they took back their country

US Presumptive Republican Nominee, Donald Trump, who is in Scotland to reopen a golf resort, has applauded the Brits for voting to leave the EU.
Speaking to reporters on Friday after arriving in his signature helicopter at Turnberry near his clubhouse resort, Trump said they had retaken control of their country.
In his words: "They took back control of their country. It's a great thing." He said people all over the world were angry, adding: "They're angry over borders, they're angry over people coming into the country and taking over."
Trump had previously stated that he would be inclined to leave the EU; and he touched on this again on Friday, saying: "I said this was going to happen and I think that it's a great thing."
Perhaps comparing the British vote to American politics and the forthcoming US elections, Trump has released a written statement saying Americans would have a chance "to re-declare their independence" and "reject today's rule by the global elite" when they vote on Nov 8 for a US president to succeed President Barack Obama, a Democrat who had urged Britons to stay in the EU.
Upon arriving in Scotland, 'The Donald' had tweeted: "Just arrived in Scotland. Place is going wild over the vote. They took their country back, just like we will take America back. No games!"
As it happened, Scotland, which is part of the United Kingdom, voted by a margin of 62% to 38% to remain in the EU, a result that put it sharply at odds with Britain as a whole, which voted 52% to 48% to leave.
Scotland is Donald Trump's ancestral homeland. His mother was born on the Scottish Isle of Lewis.
