- Equifax shares have now fallen by over 30% in the wake of the attack.
The Chief Executive Officer of Equifax Inc, Richard has announced that he will be retiring following the massive data breach the company recently experienced that exposed personal details of up to 143 million U.S. consumers.
Equifax announced earlier this month that cyber criminals had gained access to its systems in what has now been considered as the biggest data breach the U.S. has ever experienced.
"At this critical juncture, I believe it is in the best interests of the company to have new leadership to move the company forward," Smith said in a statement.
This announcement comes just a week before Mr Smith was expected to appear before a Senate Banking Committee regarding the cyber attack.
Shares of Equifax Inc have now fallen by over 30% since the announcement of the cyber attacks.
