- Lukaku scores twice as Man Utd defeat West Ham.
- Nemanja Matic shines.
- Convincing performance from Man Utd.
In
a move that has solidly declared their intentions and confirmation as
title contenders, Manchester United thrashed West Ham 4-0 in a fast
paced sunday evening thriller.
From the kick off, Man Utd looked
sharp and focussed to get the job done and most importantly, the team
showed a level of discipline that was absent last season - the
discipline to stay in control of the game when it was still goalless.
After
consistently troubling the West Ham defenders, Romelu Lukaku showed the
class and prowess he was bought for as he picked up a brilliant pass
from Rashford and tucked in a superb goal from close range.
Henrikh
Mkhitaryan's cross couldn't have found a better head in the 52nd minute
as Lukaku nodded his second goal of the game into the back of the net.
The
Third and Fourth goals were scored by Martial and Pogba respectively as
they commenced what is expected to be Man Utd's best season since Sir
Alex Ferguson resigned.
In a match where the attackers had a
fruitful day, it's hard for other players to shine but this wasn't the
case for new signing Nemanja Matic who defended the midfield region like
he was born to do so. His excellence on the day allowed Paul Pogba to
show off his flair and skills and overall looked liberated.
David
de Gea was also called into action a few times and he made very decent
saves showing just why Real Madrid are ever interested in the Spanish
goal-stopper.
Could this be Man Utd's best season since the exit
of Sir Alex? Can Mourinho go on to lift the Premier League trophy with
Man Utd in his second season as he has done with his previous clubs?
