Juventus suffer defeat in France as Ronaldo fail to score

Lucas Tousart's first-half goal was all French League giants Olympique Lyon needed to see off Juventus in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash at the Groupama Stadium.

The 22-year-old midfielder powered home a superb cross from Houssem Aouar from close range in the 31st minute to put the home team ahead. Aouar started the build-up after making a solo run down the left flank before locating his teammate with the delivery which went past Wojciech Szczesny's reach. Rudi Garcia's wards got the game off to a bright start with Karl Toko Ekambi close to grabbing the opener in the 20th minute but his effort was denied by the woodworks. The forward made a good run in Juve's box clustered with players from the away team and still found a way to nod the ball but the attacker was inches away from making an incredible impact. They continued to stretch Maurizio Sarri's men despite the inclusion of their superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, but the home team seems to have prepared for the Portuguese pretty well. CR7, as he is fondly referred to was denied opportunities to play his game as the hosts stifled every chance out of him. Toko Ekambi had another glorious chance to double his side's lead in the 40th minute but his final ball went inches off target. The 27-year-old intercepted a poor pass from Leonardo Bonucci and advanced into Juve's danger zone. He was, however, unable to find the target after shooting the ball out of play. Minutes before the end of the first half, Ronaldo hustled for a free kick in his familiar terrain but his delivery could not scale the wall built by Lyon stars. Both teams return for the remainder of the encounter but they failed to find the back of the net for the remainder of the meeting. The game turned aggressive towards the end but the referee from Spain Jesus Gil did well to manage the game. Juventus will now hope they can turn the game around when they welcome Lyon to the Allianz Stadium next month.
