Man City star reveals 1 condition that will make club a failure after UEFA ban

Manchester City will be labeled a failure if they fail to win the UEFA Champions League title at the end of this season says Kevin de Bruyne.

The Belgian star has been a stand out for the Pep Guardiola-led side in their back-to-back Premier League triumphs. But have been a shadow of their own success in the last two season, sitting second on the table with 57 points 19 behind log leaders Liverpool who have 76 points from 26 games. With the Citizens traveling to the Bernabeu to battle Real Madrid in Europe's elite competition this week, De Bruyne believes they will use the opportunity to advance their quest for continental glory. City managed to outshine Leicester City by a lone goal from Gabriel Jesus in the 80th minute of their encounter and they will hope the odds favour them after both legs in the round of 16. Obviously it's Madrid. They have won the most Champions Leagues out of everybody," the City midfielder said. "But I think we will go there to try to play our game like we always do and try to play offensive football, try to put them under pressure, try to have a good game and, if we can, win." Man City will battle Aston Villa in the final of the EFL Cup on the 1st of March, but the Belgian believes winning the title the third consecutive time will not change the narratives of being a local champion. If we don't win it [the Champions League] everybody is going to say we are failures like the last five years!" he added. It's something we've not won yet. We always want to win everything but sometimes another team is better or performing well – like Liverpool are doing this season. "It's just that way and you just have to admit it. But we will just go there to win that game. You can't look too much forwards and see what's going to happen." Meanwhile, Goal.com is willing to resume his club's penalty-taking responsibility after Sergio Aguero missed last weekend's kick at the King Power Stadium. With the Citizens losing the chance to convert spot-kicks in the last four games, De Bruyne admitted it could be a worry: "If you win the games 'no' but if you lose points 'yes'. "It can happen to everybody, so it's stupid to blame them. Obviously, if you miss you feel a little bad." Kevin De Bruyne has created 16 assists so far this campaign - six more than Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold.
