The American super-welterweight was knocked down twice in the fourth and eight round before hitting the canvass in the tenth. The referee immediately stopped the bout and called for the paramedics team and Day was quickly rushed to the hospital. A brain surgery was conducted on the fighter but promoter Lou DiBella confirmed Day had died on Wednesday, October 16. A statement said: "He was a son, brother, and good friend to many. "Pat's kindness, positivity, and generosity of spirit made a lasting impression with everyone he met." His opponent Conwell who is just 21-year-old also released a statement: "I never meant this to happen to you, all I wanted to do was win," he said. "If I could take it all back, I would. No-one deserves this to happen to them."
