Jose Mourinho has been relieved of his duties as manager of Manchester United, the club announced Tuesday, following poor performance and result which has left England's biggest club 19 points adrift of league leaders Liverpool after their 3-1 defeat on Sunday.
A club statement says: "The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.
"A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager."
Reports suggest former United player and assistant manager, Michael Carrick alongside Kieron McKenna will take training for the next couple of days at Manchester United.
