UEFA charges Bayern Munich over pitch invaders, 'offensive' banner

UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Bayern Munich after supporters invaded the pitch and an "illicit" banner was seen in the crowd at the Allianz Arena during Wednesday's Champions League match against Real Madrid.

After the final whistle of the semifinal first leg, several people came on to the field from the stands and attempted to get pictures taken with the players. One man was seen grabbing the shirt of Bayern forward Franck Ribery before being restrained by security staff.

A UEFA statement on Thursday said the charges against Bayern -- the "field invasion" and the presence of a banner bearing a "message of an offensive nature" -- will be dealt with by the control, ethics and disciplinary Body on May 31.

Bayern took an early lead against defending champions Madrid, but the Spanish side came from behind to take a 2-1 aggregate lead into next week's second leg at the Bernabeu.
