UCL: Manchester City and Juventus progresses into the quarterfinals

Despite having their first home defeat of the season in all competition, Pep Guardiola's Manchester City side progressed to the quarterfinal of the champions league.

Entering the second leg tie with a 4-0 advantage, Guardiola made six changes from the side that beat Chelsea at the weekend with as Aguero, David Silva and De Bruyne removed from the team list. This gave veteran midfielder Yaya Toure the opportunity to start a game for the first time in 13 games. 17-year-old Phil Foden was also given an opportunity.

Back in the starting lineup too, for the first time since suffering a knee injury on New Year's Eve, Gabriel Jesus put the Premier League leaders ahead inside eight minutes.

Swiss champions, Basel were determined to get something away from the night and responded with goals from the impressive Mohamed Elyounoussi and Michael Lang to earn a victory 1-2.

The scoreline on aggregate was 5-2 in favour of Manchester City.

The other English team playing their champions league game suffered a different fate. Tottenham Hotspur were eliminated form the competition by a relentless Juventus side.

Two quick goals in under three minutes in the second-half of the game ensured the Italian side came back from 1-0 deficit to knock Tottenham Hotspur out of the Champions League, with a 2-1 win at Wembley putting them through to the quarterfinals 4-3 on aggregate.

With a 2-2 first leg draw and the game open to both sides, Tottenham started at a blistering pace, with Son Heung-Min's scuffed effort giving the lead on 39th-minute mark.

Juventus showing their doggedness fought back with both Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala inspiring a dramatic turnaround after the break.

Tottenham have only themselves to blame as they failed to capitalize on the advantage they had and failing to converting all the chances they had in the game. They can only lick their wounds, shift their focus to the premier league and ensure they have another shot at the champions league next season.
