- Premier league making plans to adjust deadline window.
- Adjustment required to stop movement within league once season starts.
- This plan may leave EPL players exposed to moving abroad.
In a bid to create consistency and uniformity across European Football leagues, the August 31st transfer deadline was created to curtail the movement of players between clubs especially once the Champions League and Europa League tournaments have commenced.
However, this doesn't seem to be sufficient anymore for clubs and reports on Monday evening suggest that there are plans in place to adjust the transfer window for the Premier League to close once the season starts. This plan amongst others should be discussed at the Premier League Shareholders meeting due to hold by September 7th next month.
An adjusted plan like this would make a lot of sense for clubs trying to protect their players from domestic rivals but would still fail to deter clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern and PSG who are outside the shores of England from knocking on the doors of English clubs to poach their players.
So, assuming the transfer window in England closed by the start of this season, Arsene Wenger and his North London Club would be able to relax a little and not be overly concerned that Alexis Sanchez is on his way to Manchester City but may still be worried that PSG and Barca are hot on his trails.
Also, assuming the new plan was already in place, Jurgen Klopp would have less headaches concerning Star Man Coutinho who may be going to rivals Chelsea or Man City and Southampton would be at peace that Van Dijk is going nowhere until at least January.
For a plan like this that could have dire consequences, the only way it would be effective is if all leagues or at least the major ones were to adopt the plan and stick to a uniformity similar to what currently exists.
What do you think about this new plan? Will it be beneficial to the Premier League if they had a separate deadline from the rest of Europe?
