Imo re-run: PDP lawmaker wins third term in House of Reps Imo re-run

The People’s Democratic Party PDP) has won the Orlu/Orsu/Oru East federal constituency rerun election in Imo state. The PDP candidate, Honourable Jerry Alagbaso was declared the winner of the election which was held on Saturday, January 25 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The returning officer for the election Dr Emmanuel Anokuba declared that Alagbaso polled 22,475 to defeat his closet rival, Edwin Iheanacho Oku of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled 20,814. The result was announced in the state headquarters of INEC in Owerri, the capital of Imo state. The decision was taken after armed thugs stormed the collation centre in Orlu to disrupt the collation process earlier. In a related development, the PDP won the Ohimini state constituency rerun election conducted in Benue state on Saturday, January 25. Christopher Adaji, candidate of the PDP was declared the winner of the election by INEC's returning officer, Professor Nicodemus Agbulu. Similarly, the APC lost in the supplementary election conducted in Bauchi state for the House of Representatives rerun election for Zaki federal constituency. The party was defeated by the ruling PDP in the state as its candidate, Hon Auwal Jatau, won the election. Also, Honourable Abdulmumini Jibrin of the APC in Kano state lost his bid to return to the green chambers to Alhaji Ali Datti Yako of the PDP in the rerun election for the Kiru/ Bebeji federal constituency held on Saturday, January 25. Meanwhile, INEC says it has cancelled certain polling units in the rerun elections conducted in Cross River and Akwa-Ibom states. The commission, in a statement sent to journalists on Tuesday, January 28 and signed by one of its national commissioners, Festus Okoye, revealed that the action was taken due to electoral infractions recorded in the areas affected.
