APC candidate Lyon claims thugs, arms being imported for poll

David Lyon, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Bayelsa governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 16, has alleged that thugs and arms are currently being drafted to the state ahead of the poll.
Lyon made the allegation in a message to security agencies in the state for the election asking them to urgently make moves to halt the development. A statement by Gift Ebiki, Lyon's spokesperson, quotes the candidate as saying the thugs are being brought form neighbouring states on the orders of some leaders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He added that the plan of the PDP is to send the thugs to communities ahead of the election to spread violence. Explaining further, he said some of the thugs had been sent to Ekeremor and handed over to an ex-militant leader and one government official In Southern Ijaw, he said thugs were handed over to an elected legislator while "in Ogbia, the thugs are to work with a known local government official and a lawmaker,” he said. Noting that the plan is to kit the thugs with military and police uniforms, he mentioned Nembe, Brass, Ogbia, Yenagoa and Southern local government as areas where the thugs are to take charge.. “Having seen that the first strategy of procuring court judgements is dead on arrival, they have activated their next strategy of resorting to violence. "Their thugs have started arriving Bayelsa from neighbouring states and they will be deployed in APC strongholds to create atmosphere of insecurity and prevent people from coming out," Lyon said.
