Appeal court upholds Gov El - Rufai's election
The election of Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai of Kaduna state has been upheld by the Kaduna division of the court of Appeal on Thursday, November 7.
According to earlier reports, Isah Ashiru, Of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the March 9, 2019 gubernatorial election challenged the decision of the lower tribunal, which declared El-Rufai winner of the election. According Ashiru, the election was flawed with massive fraud and irregularities, The Nation reports. Specifically, the PDP and ts candidate are asking the tribunal to cancel a total of 515,951 votes from El Rufai's result. According to them, the votes were unlawfully added to the APC's votes. They also asked for the cancellation 124,210 unlawful votes added to the PDP, through wrong or double entry on the result sheets by INEC. However, in an unanimous decision, the appeal court judges on Thursday, November agreed with decision of the tribunal. They consequently declared El-Rufai as the truly elected governor of Kaduna state.
