Trump's plan to end DACA opposed by a New York Judge

U.S. President. Donald Trump's decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, DACA, a program protecting immigrants brought to the US as children, has been blocked by a second US judge on Tuesday.

U.S. District Judge Nicholas Garaufis in Brooklyn, said that Trump administration cannot end the program  on March 5 as planned, in a case filed against the federal government by the Democratic state attorney generals and immigrants.

The Judge said, though the administration could eventually end the program, it must provide a more valid reason to that effect than the one it currently references. The judge added that DACA renewal application process should resume as it was done prior to the administration's announcement.

The U.S. Justice Department in a statement by spokesman, Devin O'Malley said the Obama's administration had implemented the program unilaterally, bypassing Congress.

"The Justice Department will continue to vigorously defend this position, and looks forward to vindicating its position in further litigation," O‘Malley said.

Back in January 9, a U.S. District judge in San Francisco ruled that while legal action against Trump's decision is still on, the DACA program must remain in place.

Congress on Monday night started debating on the DACA program and issues relating to the nation's immigration law and the Supreme Court is set to consider if the administration's appeal of the San Francisco ruling should be looked into. That announce could also be made that same Friday.
