Edo State Police Command bans all public rallies

Subsequent to the protests which broke out in Edo state after the result
of the Gubernatorial election was announced by the Independent National
Electoral Commission, INEC, the Edo State Police Command has announced
the banning of all forms of procession, rallies or demonstrations in the
state.
In a statement by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 5 headquarters in Benin City, Mr Isaac Eke, the Police explained that they have information that some people are planning to carry out illegal processions and rallies.
The command therefore warned that it would deal decisively with anyone or group that engages in any activities capable of disturbing the peaceful atmosphere in the state.
The command assured members of the public that their protection would be ensured by security agents, and asked them to go about their businesses without fear.
