The crisis currently rocking the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, may be coming to an end, as factional leaders of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and Senator Ahmed Makarfi, have reportedly commenced peace negotiations.
This development was disclosed at a press conference in Abuja by the immediate past National Vice Chairman of the Party for the South-South, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, who said the Sheriff camp had made its terms for truce known to the Makarfi group through an ‘intermediary.'
Ojougboh, who was recently appointed by Senator Sheriff as Deputy Chairman, however, insisted that any negotiation for peace must always consider that Sheriff remained the authentic Chairman, until a properly constituted convention of the party said otherwise.
According to Ojougboh, Senator Sheriff was not intent on remaining as PDP Chairman by all means; but simply wanted to stop the reign of impunity in the party, and return power to the people it rightly belonged to.
He, however, declined to give other conditions outlined by Sheriff's camp for peace to reign in the troubled opposition party, noting that the conditions for truce were being worked out.
