Forgery case against Saraki and Ekweremadu stalled as both men are yet to be served court papeers

The forgery case instituted against Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu by the Attorney General on behalf of the Federal Government, has been stalled. The expected appearance of both Saraki and Ekweremadu before an Abuja High Court today, was put on hold, as court officials confirmed that the two principal officers of Senate have not been properly served with the charges.

The Federal Government had, through the office of the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, filed the charges of complicity in forging the Senate Standing Rules, against Saraki and Ekweremadu; as well as former Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Abubakar Maikasuwa and his deputy, Mr. Benedict Efeturi.

The alleged forgery, is said to have led to the emergence of Saraki and Ekweremadu, as presiding officers of the Senate,in 2015.

But Ike Ekweremadu has absolved himself of conniving to pave way for the emergence of Bukola Saraki as Senate President.

Ekweremadu who spoke through a statement said he had not received any police invitation for questioning over the matter.

Meanwhile, Saraki is slated to appear before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) where he is standing trial for an alleged false declaration of asset later today, June 21.
