Ahead of the scheduled trial date of the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), some ‘Like Mind' Senators on Sunday debunked as false, media report that a number of senators have started shopping for Saraki's successor, saying that on the contrary, majority of their colleagues are throwing their weight behind Saraki.
Recall that the federal government through the Office of Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) charged Saraki before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) Abuja, on 13 count charge over allegations bordering on false and improper declaration of assets allegedly acquired during his tenure as Governor of Kwara State from 2003 to 2011.
In an obvious reaction to a news story published by a national newspaper, six senators had in a statement, said there is no truth about claims that some senators are thinking about Saraki's successor because there is no basis for that.
The group, who signed the statement comprises Senators Rafiu Ibrahim, Peter Nwaoboshi, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi and Isa Hamma Misau.
Others include Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Lanre Tejuoso.
The group stated that they decided to issue the statement after consulting their colleagues who said they have been bombarded with calls from their constituents demanding to know the veracity of the claims contained in the news story.
"The particular newspaper and their sponsors are simply undermining the judiciary by writing a story to preempt the outcome of a judicial process. They are playing God, forgetting that Saraki would not have been Senate President if God Almighty did not wish it. He is the only Senate President who, in less than one year, had votes of confidence passed by 85 of the 109 senators. If we have a motion of confidence vote today, we are sure that 90 senators will endorse the Senate President.
